With all that said, in this generation, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and other platforms have done a great job of filtering out the more troublesome cartoons for the more wholesome ones. You have to acknowledge that Looney Tunes has its own troubled history of cartoons back in the day, so yesteryear’s openness to cartoon violence really doesn’t mean it was simpler times compared to today. At the beginning of the episode, you’re greeted with signs posted by Daffy duck that says: “If you’re looking for fun… all you need is a gun.” Don’t worry, it’s followed up by a sign that says, “It’s rabbit season!” Truly, you couldn’t dream about having something like that on TV today, and let’s not just chalk it up to the “PC/snowflake” argument. That is to say, cartoons definitely hit a little different back in the ’50s, and cartoon violence was certainly of another breed. Is it Duck season or Rabbit season? That’s what’s up for debate in this silly cartoon that’s basically all about Bugs Bunny outsmarting Daffy, and Daffy always being the one on the… receiving end of Elmer Fudd’s gun. ![]() But Bugs and Daffy are at odds about what (or rather, who) Fudd should be hunting. But this cartoon holds a classic plot that if you ask any fan what’s the most memorable Looney Tunes cartoon, they’d probably point to this one. And that makes it easily digestible for this generation of children who can binge TV series straight or watch clips back to back on YouTube. This episode, unlike most modern-day cartoons, clocks in just around 7 minutes. But what’s the defining episode of these classic ‘toons? It has to be none other than 1952’s “Rabbit Seasoning.” Known as both the Merry Melodies series and Looney Tunes series in their earlier years, these cartoons featuring the likes of Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck and the ever-clever Bugs Bunny have been watched by generations. Maybe rivaled only by Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoons, Warner Bros.’ creations of whacky, loveable characters have lasted almost a century. There are few cartoons that are able to stand the tests of time the way the Looney Tunes cartoons have done. Looney Tunes have had some great cartoons, but it’s “Rabbit Seasoning” that’s the episode that really defines this classic cartoon series. ![]()
